Dave Coffey

Dave Coffey who has spent most of his working career in the automotive industry graduated from the University of Natal in South Africa with a degree in B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering in 1984 and subsequently obtained an MBA from the University of Cape Town in 1992.

He is currently the CEO of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) which is an association focused on the expansion and deepening of the automotive industry across Africa by working with governments to shape and implement policies and ecosystems that will attract investors and unlock the economic potential of the continent. 

Before taking up his position at AAAM he was the Managing Director of Shatterprufe, a manufacturer and distributer of automotive glass based in South Africa. During this time, he was also responsible for the Widney business, a manufacturer of automotive aluminum glazing solutions along with Llumar, a window filming business.

He previously held senior positions within various automotive supplier companies including Dorbyl Automotive Technologies and Bel-Essex Engineering.

Dave has also been active in various business organisations during his career, including being President of NAACAM twice (National Association of Automotive Component & Allied Manufacturers in South Africa), as well as being President of the Nelson Mandela Bay Chamber of Commerce. Dave is married to Sandy a well-known photographer and they have two sons. He received provincial colours for cross country running in his younger days and completed three half Iron Man competitions before completing a full one in 2018. In addition, he has climbed Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua in the Andes and is an active mountain biker.
